Middle Market Broking Intern

June - August 2023 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

Great environment, great teammates, and great opprotunities. I got to experience the broking world firsthand and see how it works. It helped me determine that I wanted to be a broker and that Aon would be a great place to work. Thank you Aon!

What I wish was different

Advice

Reach out to as many people as you can. Everyone is more than happy to sit down and have a conversation. There is a great amount of knowledge that everyone at Aon has and I have never worked at a place that is so open immediately at your arrival. So ask questions and don't be afraid to meet new people!

Apprentice

August 2022 • Philadelphia, PA

What I liked

I liked my coworkers, and the scheduling of CCP classes that allowed us to understand one another

What I wish was different

That they give management more understanding that we are completely new to the role. Some managers expected us to train seniors how to work a computer application when they’ve been employed for decades. Some managers are alarmed that we come into the program knowing absolutely nothing of insurance, and talk down about you amongst the team. A lot of managers aren’t prepared to manage teams, let alone apprentices.

Advice

That Aon put potential managers through a 4 weeks bonding / building class. Enlist the understanding that regardless of age, those enrolled have maybe 0 to 25% of corporate understanding, let alone insurance definitions or projects. Sensitivity training is needed.

What I wish was different

Advice

Commercial Risk Intern

June - August 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Welcoming environment. Learned a lot and program was great although virtual.

What I wish was different

I wish we were able to go into the office more but with the pandemic, it was obviously out of Aon’s control.

Advice

I would tell others to be vocal about what you like/dislike in your role. I got a return offer from another group that suited me better than the one I interned with.

Actuarial Intern

June - August 2020 • Bloomington, MN

What I liked

I enjoyed learning about the insurance and financial industries, getting real experience with actual client data, and networking to build my personal network. Having a steady schedule gave me a good taste for when I will have a full-time job after college. I also got to develop my professional communication skills and see how people truly interact in a professional and social way.

What I wish was different

I wish I had the opportunity to be in the office rather than completely virtual at home. I also wish the internship included more programming and unique software so I could expand my skillset and grow my versatility.

Advice

I would recommend to be as flexible and adaptive as possible. Really put in the effort to show what you can do and all of the influences you can have in a workplace. Don't just do what is asked of you, but try to impress your coworkers everyday that you are working.

Summer Cyber Associate

June - August 2020 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I liked the independence we had as interns and how were were given opportunities to shadow on client projects. Also, I liked the opportunities to learn more about cyber security. I attended weekly computer networking classes for continued development.

What I wish was different

I wish it was not virtual, but that was a product of covid and not the company. I also would have liked even more shadowing opportunities.

Advice

My one piece of advice I would share about this experience is to be as outgoing as possible, to that you can network with many different people. You cannot be shy. You have to put yourself out there, because they will see that as passion for the job and will better your chances at a return offer.

Commercial Risk Solutions: Casualty Broker

June - August 2020 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

I interviewed with the team I worked with closely. The culture is like none other. Aon supports its employees and is a flexible/adaptable organization. The team was willing to have me start earlier, and kept all interns during COVID-19. No one in the firm lost their job during COVID-19. Over 50% of the employees voluntarily chose to take a temporary pay cut, so no one would be furloughed. In appreciation for all of the hard work, Aon gave all employees an extra day off and gave everyone their lost income with a bonus in their pay rate.

What I wish was different

Unfortunately, my whole internship was remote.

Health & Benefits Intern

June - August 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

The culture was fun and challenging, everyone was very inclusive and engaging. Every day was different and I was always juggling different projects within the healthcare and benefits space. The entire 10-week program led up to a final presentation of my summer project to the whole office which was very rewarding.

What I wish was different

I wish I had the opportunity to explore other divisions of Aon (risk, retirement, cybersecurity) during my time there.

Advice

Come prepared every day to take on whatever type of project is given to you!

What I liked

What I wish was different

I only wish that it was longer! It went by very quick.

Advice

Intern

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

It was a great insight into an often-overlooked industry. The ability to speak with high ranking executives and pick their minds with questions was helpful in me getting a genuine grasp of what the company culture was like and how I would fit in.

What I wish was different

I do wish I was given more tasks to work on during my time at AON.

Advice

It was great and all experiences are welcomed. You can do whatever you put your mind too and people are so willing to help you put your best foot forward.

Actuarial Consulting Intern

June - August 2017 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I did real actuarial consulting work, not just an intern project, and had the opportunity to work on 8 client teams which exposed me to different aspects of consulting work and different people in the work group.

What I wish was different

Advice

Take advantage of the opportunity to work with many different people as you will learn a lot more about the job, the people, and what working there could look like for you in the long term.
