Sports Marketing FP&A Intern

May - August 2019 • Baltimore, MD

What I liked

There were a handful of things I liked during my time at Under Armour. The first of which was the welcoming and light-hearted culture the company offered. In addition, my project for the summer made an impact on the company and is being implemented as we speak. I was able to meet with various executives and other teammates within the company to get insights on what I could implement in my project to make it sustainable. Throughout the internship, we had weekly meet and greets with SVP's and other higher-ups in the company, as well as panels to hear the C-Suite employees talk about their journey and insights on life. Lastly, the Under Armour Rookie Program (Interns are called Rookies at Under Armour) puts on a sports league for all its intern to play in over the course of the summer, which was a highlight.

What I wish was different

I thought my summer internship was as close to flawless as it could have been, except for two things. One thing I wish did not happen was that I was removed from sitting next to my team about three weeks in (but also was nice because I got moved to Rookie Island, which was an area of about 10 interns). Although it was nice sitting near the other Rookies, I was not as productive and did not learn as much as I could have if I was sitting with my team. The second thing I wish had been different was putting all of the Rookies on the same side of the harbor in apartments. It was difficult for me to get to know a lot of the Rookies on the other side of the harbor since I did not have a car.

Advice

Stay Humble and Hungry. You want to stay humble in your work life because there is always room to improve and aspects within the company or skills to learn. It is also important to stay hungry to continue to better yourself from an intellectual perspective as well as asking for work once you have completed your given assignments.

Wholesale Planning Intern

May - August 2019 • Baltimore, MD

What I liked

Under Armour's work culture is amazing. Most employees are fairly young and everyone has a love for sports and fashion. Everyone is so nice and willing to talk or help with anything. I loved everything about this internship program and I think it is more than deserving of its recognition for being one of the top programs in the country.

What I wish was different

Nothing at all.

Advice

Be open to any position as an intern at Under Armour. Being able to be a part of that program is such a fantastic opportunity that not many people are fortunate enough to be offered.

Team Sports Sales Intern

May - August 2018 • Baltimore, MD

What I liked

I loved my time with Under Armour. This internship experience is one of a kind! The thing that makes this internship different is the overall experience. We had a rookie intramural sports league every week, rookie speaker series with the top executives in different departments, a give back day, we went to an orioles game, and countless other fun days in and out of the office. I was also able to build close relationships with the other interns since we all lived in the same apartment building. Under Armour does a great job proving us a great experience not only during work, but after work as well.

What I wish was different

I think the recruiting process is a little slow for Under Armour. But I know they have thousands of applicants and only 90ish spots. I got my offer in early February and I know other interns who didn't get theirs until March. A lot of other internships offer in the fall but I really recommend that people should still apply to UA. I also wish I knew a little more about what I would being doing before I got to Baltimore. I had some information from the interview but that was all I honestly knew about it. Maybe others had it differently but I didn't know exactly what I would be doing until I got there.

Advice

One piece of advice that I have is to try to make the most of your experience. This means to meet as many people as you can (UA teammates love meeting Rookies!) and try to build your network. I met so many people that were very helpful to me and was able to narrow down what I want to do post-grad. Meet every person you can and try to go to every meeting or event that they schedule for you. Make the most out of your summer.

Supply Chain Intern

May - August 2018 • Baltimore, MD

What I liked

Amazing culture. Some of the most driven people who embody the friendly team-first attitude that you see in sports teams. The Rookie Program takes care of everything you need to worry about in Baltimore (as an out-of-town intern) and it felt like a Summer Camp outside of work. At work, the projects you're assigned actually make a big impact on the business and everyone from managers to directors to C-Suite executives take time to learn about your work and they genuinely appreciate it. Overall incredible experience!

What I wish was different

I wish that Under Armour gave return offers at the end of the summer, but unfortunately, they do not, at least for undergraduates. You have to wait until you go back to school and apply for full time positions/go through the recruiting process all over again. Seems like a missed opportunity.

Advice

Choose fit or anything else. I chose UA over other higher-paying offers because it seemed like the right environmental fit for me, and it was the best decision I made.

What I liked

I loved the intern experience at Under Armour. I enjoyed everything from living in the apartments, to eating at a crab feast on Baltimore's harbor.

What I wish was different

I wish that everyone had gotten to Under Armour at the same time and there weren't different intern groups.

Advice

The best advice I can give about being an intern at Under Armour is just to take everything in because the summer goes by fast.

Global Analytics Intern

May - August 2019 • Baltimore, MD

What I liked

I like that I was given the opportunity to work on a project that would be beneficial to the company. I was given access to real company data and other resources that I needed to provide a valuable deliverable. I also liked that I was encouraged to learn as much as I could and build my network while I had access to variety of professionals with different backgrounds.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have taken the time to shadow people who worked in departments across the company. I also wish I would have spent more time developing stronger relationships with the other interns.

Advice

I would encourage people to try to learn something from everyone you encounter. People have so much to offer based on their existing knowledge and previous experiences. During the conversation the information that is shared may not seem useful but you never know when something that appears to have no initial value could become useful.

Sales and Marketing

May - August 2018 • Baltimore, MD

What I liked

I loved the whole overall experience. It was more than just an internship. We got to interact with top executives and bond as an intern class with various sponsored activities. Also we learned more than just what we needed for our job because we learned how the company works. The interns felt like actual employees.

What I wish was different

I wish the recruiting process was better. They do not give return offers for full time or interns. You have to reapply or wait until a position becomes available. And you don't find out you get the internship until early spring which is pretty late compared to a lot of other companies.

Advice

Meet as many people as you can and take advantage of all the opportunities that UA offers to all the interns.

Rookie, Retail Leadership

May - August 2019 • Hershey, PA

What I liked

I loved that it was a rotational program and that everyone was really dedicated to helping me learn.

What I wish was different

I wish there was something tangible that we got at the end so we could have something to add to a portfolio (or even guidance on how we could create something that would look good on a résumé/personal website. Even without this, the program is phenomenal.

Advice

Take every opportunity to learn something new.

Go-to-Market Intern

June - August 2023 • Baltimore, MD

What I liked

The Rookie (Internship) Program is an incredibly enriching and well-organized experience. The company did a great job pivoting to remote/hybrid work, creating Rookie Week to bring all interns together to Baltimore. There was an amazing combination of networking, professional development, and company activities, even outside of Rookie Week. I would highly recommend this program.

What I wish was different

Advice

As an intern, I would take advantage of all the events to learn more and network. Company leadership values interns and they take the time to actually have a conversation.
