Planning and Allocation Intern
May - August 2018 • Framingham, MA
What I liked
This was my second internship at TJX but this time I worked in planning and allocation. I worked alongside allocation analysts, associate planners, and a planning manager. I enjoyed getting to learn about the business from a more analytical stand point. I actually got to ship goods to the Homegoods stores, which was really exciting. I got to go into the stores and say "I choose to ship this here". I received so much responsibility throughout my time at TJX and feel very prepared to work there after graduation. I also had to take part in an intern project where we had to build a growth strategy for a department within Homegoods based on what the competition is doing. It was very helpful in learning how TJX evaluates the competition and I loved getting to work with the other interns.
What I wish was different
There is nothing that I would of wanted to change about my experience.
Advice
Take advantage of all of the networking opportunities throughout the Summer. Make an effort to get to know the other interns, both planning and buying associates, your recruiter, and manager.

Merchandising Intern
May - August 2018 • New York City, NY
What I liked
I loved my internship with TJX! Being in New York City, I had access to a vast network of vendors in the fashion market. Each week I spent time in the market (3-5 appointments per week) and spent time in the office (looking at selling reports and helping to execute buys). I loved the responsibility my supervising buyer gave me and it helped me to truly discover if I want to pursue this career.

Digital Marketing Intern
June - August 2019 • Framingham, MA
What I liked
Everyone at the company is incredibly welcoming and willing to help and talk to you about your interests. The interns have events together, like ice cream socials, lunches, and trivia networking events. I was working with real world work such as managing TJX company Instagram accounts, assisting with media planning, and taking creative content for social platforms.
What I wish was different
You are placed in one department and do work in just that department (brand, digital, consumer insights etc), and it would have been nice to be able to experience different areas as part of the program. If you ever want to shadow someone however in another department, you could definitely do that on your own time if you asked your manager.
Advice
Do not be afraid to ask for more work. If you finish a task or assignment and are not sure what to do next, take initiative and ask the people on your floor. Chances are they need help on something and it shows that you are motivated!

Backroom/remodeling associate
June - August 2018 • New York City, NY
What I liked
I love how I was able to move on my feet. I think and work harder in motion. Backroom was a great experience learning how to operate hand-trucks to unload pallets from trucks and procure the items through a conveyor belt. It was the first time I've done anything as physically demanding as this job for any summer. Backroom flow led me to be recruited into overnight shifts doing remodeling, and it was just as labor intensive if not more. I took pride in the small fact that I get to see how retail stores operate and how they maintain upkeep. It was like Modern Marvel live when we coordinated with construction workers to dismantle and rebuild fixtures and rearrange department flow.
What I wish was different
I just wish we get paid for or at least be allowed to work more than 40 hours. There are some nights where things don't get finished on schedule and there is no one to blame but time, and things outside such as a steam pipe explosion that inadvertently hinders the construction workers therefore delaying my team and myself from completing our own projects. My team includes my manager and he doesn't get much sleep at times and he always prefers to stay on the floor to make the majority of the store look refined and ready for a visit from headquarters, for example. I feel bad for my manager, and I think maybe I also wish for better coordination between higher ups in terms of worker health and safety, because if your manager doesn't get much sleep and still works twice as hard, associates may follow suit and that can cause big consequences, I believe, in the long run.
Advice
Make sure you know what you want, because it will you give a much easier time coming to work. Communicate clearly what you want to do and when you want to do them so you can maintain a fixed schedule or at least have a good idea of how your work week is. Flexible is good, but at your own pace. Every bark and branch don't bend or break the same way. Otherwise, you may end up doing more things than you should because, you think you need to make more money.

Buying and Merchandising Intern
May - August 2018 • Los Angeles, CA
What I liked
I had the opportunity to work with buyers on big negotiations with prominent markets in the business world. I was able to attend vendor appointments and even opened my own account for the company. What I wish was different
I would not change anything about my experience with TJX. I definitely enjoyed my summer while also learning a lot.
