Human Resources Intern

May - July 2022 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

I enjoyed the opportunity to learn of the various career options in the banking industry and everything that falls under 'HR' which was fascinating . I was treated as another member of the team and I appreciated the time that everyone took to teach me as much as possible within my duration at the firm. I was also able to work with other interns like myself, learn from one another, and collectively work on projects that could be implemented at Stifel.

Rotational Finance Intern

June - July 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about different fields in finance (i.e. fixed income, investment banking, and equity research) while meeting people in the industry and working on relevant projects.

What I wish was different

I wish that we would have had more time in each division to fully explore what we enjoyed because at the end of the internship we were able to select which field we were the most interested in receiving a return offer from.

Advice

Make sure to take lots of notes on what you've learnt, the people you've met, and what you want to learn more about!

Summer Analyst

June - August 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

The bankers were extremely friendly and willing to share their experience, and the mentorship program with a junior and senior mentor provided me with great insight and feedback on my deliverables. I also really enjoyed the extra effort that the recruiters made to make sure we got to know people in the firm; the access to senior management was fantastic.

What I wish was different

Being a virtual experience, I do wish we were able to work on deals and experience more of what the full-time position would be like. That being said, the bankers did an amazing job telling us about the deals they were working on, so we were still able to get some of that experience if we asked.

Advice

With any experience, network; I know that the connections I made will flow into my full time position next year.

Estate and Tax Planning Intern

July 2018 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

The learning experience of practical lessons and strategies associated with a topic learned about in class the previous semester.

What I wish was different

An additional class taken during law school prior to beginning the internship to broaden the base of incoming knowledge.

Advice

Prepare yourself as best you can with prior knowledge generally about the field you are entering. The basic language of the field is important to be familiar with to learn more quickly after starting.

Product Control and Oversight

May - August 2017 • St. Louis, MO

What I liked

The people I worked with were very friendly. They helped me get familiar with the company and taught me my daily duties very thoroughly. I was not afraid to ask questions and I felt very productive. I got to apply engineering techniques such as programing with Visual Basic for Applications.

What I wish was different

I wish the position would have been a little more focused towards engineering.

Advice

Make sure you step outside of your comfort zone. I am a Biosystems Engineering major and ended up getting an internship at a finance firm! I had no idea that an engineer would be required at these kind of companies.
