What I liked

I had SOME great coworkers who were incredibly supportive. I literally feel like we trauma bonded. It was also very cool to talk to the students and learn about their cultures.

What I wish was different

So much. It took me an hour and a half to complete an exit survey that I was told would take only 5-10 minutes. The upper upper management was great, but because of everything he had to do, he ended up being quite detached from the rest of the team. The senior staff below him, for the most part, was incredibly misogynistic. I was also racially profiled by a coworker (and roommate for one day before I moved out due to her comments), who they kept on for the rest of the summer. I think that many of the staff members were either misogynistic, racist, or both, which is especially awful when we're working with a population that is 2/3 girls and is partly from Asia. I am confident, however, that many of these employees will not be returning next summer, and I assume the work environment will be better, but if there is a hiring crunch like there was this year, there's no guarantees that the new people won't also be terrible. Additionally, when they say in the interview that you will be working long hours, they REALLY mean it. I averaged 60 hours a week, which added up to be a decent amount of money, but we were not paid nearly enough for the things they had us do. Waking up at 3 am to go to the airport, being emotional support for teens who are an ocean away from home, and making sure they don't get lost in New York City is worth way more than minimum wage, in my opinion.

Advice

If you decide to take this job, you need to be strong mentally because it will challenge you in many many ways.

Multimedia intern

What I liked

I loved my co-workers, my mentor and bein in Hong Kong. All the work I was doing made me feel like I was part of the videography team instead of just an intern. I gained so many skills and they were always willing to teach me something and give me enough time to do it. Hong Kong is also a place with many creative and friendly people!

What I wish was different

Nothing. The internship is what you make it.

If you want to make something or want more work in one area then ask!

Sales Intern

What I liked

I loved being able to explore a new perspective of the sales industry through this position because it allowed me to meet with the presidents, directors, managers, and sales teams within almost every department throughout EF Education First. This opportunity provided me with an in-depth and hands-on internship that combined sales and consulting into one role to improve processes in the organization. I truly enjoyed the corporate culture since it is known to encourage a fun, collaborative and passionate environment to grow personally and professionally in. The teamwork and willingness to help others goes a long way once you are working in the corporate world and it stuck out to me during each role I was able to perform.

What I wish was different

There is a long application process from start to end, but that's just to ensure EF and the candidate are the right fit for each other.

Advice

Take every chance you can to meet with others and learn more about different departments within the large company because you never know what opportunity may come from it!

Marketing and Sales Intern

What I liked

EF has a really energetic, fun, and unique work environment. The Denver office is really cool and open, people are always willing to help you hop on different projects and meet with others to help you experience various tasks within the industry. I learned a lot about the travel industry and sales. It was inspiring to see how many passionate young people worked there and all the trips they got to go on through the company.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have been able to help more with event planning and PR because they host a lot of fun events for their clients and they have a huge social media presence so it would have been fun to work on some posts.

Advice

Be confident, passionate, driven and sell yourself! Companies just want someone who is interesting and unique and willing to work hard. There is also the opportunity to be hired in the future, so showing an interest and making connections at work is huge.
