Landscape Architect / Project Manager

Landscape Architect / Project Manager

Aspen, Colorado  |  Full-time  |  Reports to: Owner, Katherine Adams

Compensation: Competitive based on Experience plus benefits

About Us

Fitzgerald Landscaping & Design Inc. is a 25-person landscaping firm in Aspen, Colorado, specializing in mainly high end luxury homes, public parks and trails and mixed-use developments. Our work sits in one of the most demanding and rewarding landscapes in the country: high-alpine sites, short growing seasons, steep terrain, and clients who expect exceptional craftsmanship. We believe great landscapes are built through strong design, clear communication, and disciplined project delivery, and we are looking for a professional who can do all three.

The Role

As Landscape Architect / Project Manager, you will lead projects from concept through construction administration. You will be the primary point of contact for clients, manage budgets and schedules, guide a team of designers, and hold the design intent from first sketch to final planting. This role suits someone who is equally comfortable at the drafting table, in a client meeting, and on a job site at 8,000 feet.

Key Responsibilities

Design Leadership

  • Lead the development of concept, schematic, design development, and construction documents
  • Set design direction and review team work for quality, constructability, and consistency
  • Prepare and present graphics, narratives, and presentations to clients, community groups, and public agencies
  • Integrate sustainable, site-appropriate design, including stormwater and snowmelt management, native and high-elevation planting, wildfire-conscious landscapes, and wildlife and habitat considerations

Project Management

  • Manage project scope, fees, budgets, and schedules from proposal through closeout
  • Coordinate with civil engineers, architects, structural, MEP, geotechnical, and other consultants
  • Track deliverables, resource needs, and billing; produce regular status updates for clients and leadership
  • Identify scope changes early and manage them professionally, including preparing additional service requests

Client and Stakeholder Relations

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships and serve as the day-to-day point of contact
  • Support business development through proposals, interviews, and repeat-client outreach
  • Navigate land use review, permitting, and approvals with the City of Aspen, Pitkin County, and other local jurisdictions, including historic preservation and design review where applicable

Construction Administration

  • Review submittals, respond to RFIs, and conduct site visits and punch lists
  • Work with contractors to resolve field issues while protecting design intent and budget
  • Plan around the short mountain construction season, frost and snow constraints, and seasonal planting windows

Team Mentorship

  • Supervise, mentor, and support the professional growth of junior and mid-level staff
  • Contribute to office standards, details, specifications, and best practices

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Business, Construction Management or similar from an accredited program (LAAB)
  • Professional licensure (PLA) in good standing in any U.S. state, or eligibility to obtain it within [12] months
  • 5-8 years of professional experience, including  3 years managing projects and teams
  • Demonstrated experience delivering projects through construction, with a portfolio of built work
  • Strong working knowledge of grading, drainage, planting design, hardscape, and site materials
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and GIS.  Arborgold and Quickbooks a plus.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and graphic communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and multiple projects at once

Preferred

  • Experience with mountain, high-elevation, or resort-community projects
  • Knowledge of native and adapted plant palettes for cold, dry, high-altitude climates
  • LEED, SITES, or other sustainability credentials
  • Experience writing technical specifications and preparing cost estimates
  • Familiarity with public engagement and community outreach processes
  • Spanish
