Assistant Kitchen Manager

FULL-TIME Assistant Kitchen Manager

Slurp Ramen | Port Jefferson, NY Reports to: Operations Manager

Lead a kitchen you're proud of.

At Slurp Ramen, great ramen starts with great people — and great kitchens start with great leaders.

Since opening as Long Island's first ramen shop, we've built our reputation on authentic Japanese comfort food, consistency, and a team that genuinely enjoys working together. We move fast, work hard, support one another, and have fun doing it. Now we're looking for a Kitchen Manager to help lead that kitchen — someone who can hold our standards, develop our team, and keep the heart of the house running smoothly.

If you're an experienced kitchen leader looking for more than "just another restaurant job," we'd love to meet you.

What You'll Do

As Kitchen Manager, you'll lead daily back-of-house operations and make sure every bowl that leaves the kitchen meets the Slurp standard.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Leading and coordinating daily kitchen operations and prep
  • Managing, training, and developing the kitchen team across all stations
  • Building and adjusting kitchen schedules to meet business needs and labor targets
  • Upholding Slurp recipes, quality, consistency, and presentation on every plate
  • Overseeing inventory, ordering, and vendor relationships to keep the kitchen stocked
  • Monitoring and controlling food costs and waste
  • Ensuring full compliance with food safety and sanitation standards, including health inspections
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and well-functioning kitchen
  • Coordinating equipment upkeep and reporting maintenance needs
  • Supporting the hiring and onboarding of new kitchen team members
  • Coaching teammates and giving clear, constructive feedback
  • Jumping on the line, expediting, and leading by example during busy service
  • Partnering with the front-of-house team and ownership to keep service smooth
  • Helping create an efficient, positive, and professional kitchen environment

What We're Looking For

This is a leadership role, so experience matters here.

We're looking for someone who is:

  • A minimum of 3 years of kitchen leadership experience (sous chef, lead cook, or kitchen manager) — this is a firm requirement, and we verify experience and references
  • Confident managing, training, and motivating a team
  • Organized and comfortable with scheduling, ordering, and inventory
  • Cost-conscious and mindful of food and labor budgets
  • Calm, steady, and decisive under pressure
  • Detail-oriented and committed to consistency
  • Reliable, punctual, and accountable
  • A strong communicator who gives and receives feedback well
  • Passionate about food, hospitality, and building a great team

Helpful, but not required:

  • Experience with Japanese cuisine or ingredients (we'll teach you our way)
  • ServSafe Manager certification (or willingness to obtain one — we'll support you)

Weekend availability is required, and flexibility across weekdays and peak shifts is essential for this role.
