Physical Education Teacher

Centreville Layton School is seeking a Part-Time Physical Education Teacher to provide engaging, differentiated instruction for students who learn differently. The teacher will promote physical fitness, motor skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy habits while creating a safe, inclusive environment where every student can succeed. Responsibilities include planning and adapting lessons, assessing student progress, maintaining records and equipment, communicating with families and colleagues, and collaborating to address individual student needs. A bachelor’s degree is required; a degree in Physical Education, Health, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related field is preferred. Experience teaching school-aged children or students with learning differences is also preferred. Candidates must be flexible, collaborative, and effective communicators. The position requires active participation in physical activities and the ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Centreville Layton School is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Align instruction with the mission of Centreville Layton School
• Plan and deliver engaging physical education lessons that meet the diverse needs of students who learn differently
• Use evidence-based practices that promote student success and participation
• Demonstrate a flexible and reflective approach to teaching
• Promote physical fitness, motor skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal responsibility
• Adapt activities and instruction to accommodate individual student learning profiles and physical abilities
• Maintain a safe and organized physical education environment and ensure the proper use and care of equipment
• Collaborate with colleagues to support student growth and share best practices
• Use formative and summative assessments and document student progress and achievement
• Communicate effectively with school administrators, classroom teachers, families, and students through face-to-face dialogue, written messages, and written reports to track and communicate progress
• Involve parents and guardians as partners in their students' education
• Maintain accurate student records
• Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs
• Perform other duties as assigned

Education / Experience / Skills Requirements:

Knowledge and application of child cognitive development and various learning styles, with the capacity and willingness to reflect upon and improve instructional practices to better serve our students.

• Bachelor's degree from a fully accredited college or university, appropriate for the level to be taught
• Degree in Physical Education, Health, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related field (preferred)
• Experience teaching physical education to school-aged children (preferred)
• Experience working with students who have learning differences (preferred)
• Possess knowledge of evidence-based practices that promote students' success across the curriculum
• Demonstrate understanding, appreciation, and empathy for students who learn differently
• Demonstrate the ability to create an inclusive, positive, and engaging learning environment
• Demonstrate ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Must possess excellent collaboration and written and verbal communication skills

Physical Requirements:

Must have the ability to stand, walk, run, bend, kneel, and actively participate in physical activities for extended periods of time.
