Position Overview

This position is ideal for a recent graduate or engineer with 0–3 years of experience looking to establish a career in transportation engineering. You will gain hands-on experience supporting a variety of roadway and municipal infrastructure projects throughout Pennsylvania while working closely with experienced engineers and project managers.

Your work will include supporting projects such as:

• Highway and roadway reconstruction
• Roadway widening projects
• Intersection improvements and roundabouts
• Bridge replacement support
• Multimodal transportation facilities
• Municipal infrastructure improvements

Through mentorship and on-the-job training, you will develop expertise in roadway design, engineering plans, project delivery, and transportation design standards. As your experience grows, you will have opportunities to advance into roles such as Project Engineer, Project Manager, Technical Specialist, or Practice Leader.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist with the planning, analysis, and design of highway, roadway, and municipal transportation projects.
• Support the development of roadway geometry, alignments, profiles, cross sections, grading plans, and design details.
• Prepare construction plans, technical documentation, quantity calculations, and cost estimates under the guidance of experienced engineers.
• Perform engineering calculations and assist with preparation of reports, studies, and project documentation.
• Coordinate with drainage, traffic, structural, geotechnical, environmental, and survey teams.
• Assist with utility coordination, permitting activities, and right-of-way documentation.
• Participate in field investigations, site visits, and construction support activities.
• Assist with coordination efforts involving PennDOT, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, municipalities, and other agencies.
• Continue developing technical skills through mentorship, training, and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or the ability to obtain certification within one year.
• 0–3 years of relevant internship, co-op, or professional experience.
• Interest in transportation engineering and roadway design.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Willingness to learn and grow as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Internship or co-op experience with a consulting engineering firm, transportation agency, or municipality.
• Familiarity with Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD), MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar design software.
• Exposure to roadway design principles, grading, drainage, or construction plans through coursework or internships.
• Familiarity with PennDOT design standards and AASHTO guidelines.
• Interest in pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
