Position Summary
The Childhood Education Director provides leadership for high-quality early childhood and school-age programs while creating a welcoming, nurturing environment for children, families and staff. This role oversees daily operations, staff development, program quality, budgeting, licensing compliance and community partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the daily operations of childhood education programs.
- Recruit, hire, train, coach and supervise staff.
- Ensure licensing, safety and YMCA standards are met.
- Develop and manage department budgets.
- Build relationships with families, schools and community partners.
- Evaluate programs, implement improvements and support growth.
- Assist with marketing, special events and annual fundraising efforts.
- Provide direct program support as needed to maintain ratios.
Qualifications
- Minimum age: 21 (IA)
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience; must meet Director licensing requirements
- At least one year of supervisory experience in childcare or education
- Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
- Successful background check
- Required YMCA certifications and abuse prevention training completed within required timeframes (training provided)
Work Environment
This active role includes sitting, standing, walking and engaging with children throughout the day. Travel between local YMCA branches may be required.
