The United City Apprenticeship is a part-time leadership development experience designed for college students and emerging leaders who want to grow in ministry while continuing their education or other vocational responsibilities. Through intentional mentorship, practical ministry experience, and meaningful leadership opportunities, Apprentices serve alongside experienced ministry leaders while discovering and developing their God-given gifts.

As one of the fastest-growing churches in Northeast Houston, United City Church exists to help people Find Life in Jesus and Bring Life to Everyone Around Them. Apprentices are more than volunteers—they become valued members of a ministry team, gaining practical experience while growing spiritually, personally, and professionally.

Designed for college students and emerging leaders, the Apprenticeship allows you to gain meaningful ministry experience while continuing your education, work, or other responsibilities. Choose Your Ministry Track

Apprentices serve in one of the following ministry tracks based on their gifts, interests, and calling.

Kids Ministry

Create engaging environments where children know Jesus and families thrive.

Youth Ministry

Disciple students, develop leaders, and reach the next generation.

Groups Ministry

Build biblical community and equip adults to become disciple-makers.

Young Adults Ministry

Reach emerging adults, cultivate authentic community, and launch leaders into God's mission.

Missions Ministry

Mobilize the church to live on mission—locally, nationally, and globally.

Español Ministry

Build biblical community and develop leaders as part of United City Church's vision of one church, two languages.

Worship Ministry

Lead people to worship Christ through spiritual leadership, musical excellence, and pastoral care.

Production Ministry

Leverage technology to create distraction-free environments where people can encounter Jesus.

Creative Ministry

Tell compelling stories that help people take their next step with Jesus.

What You'll Experience

Every Apprentice receives intentional development through:

• One-on-one mentorship with an experienced ministry leader
• Hands-on ministry experience in your chosen ministry track
• Leadership development and ministry coaching
• Opportunities to serve and lead meaningful ministry initiatives
• Exposure to multiple areas of church ministry
• Church staff training and ministry development opportunities
• Practical experience that complements classroom learning

Qualifications

We're looking for individuals who demonstrate:

• A growing relationship with Jesus Christ and a desire to serve the local church
• College students, recent graduates, or emerging leaders exploring vocational ministry
• A teachable spirit and willingness to grow through coaching and feedback
• Strong character, initiative, and a servant-hearted attitude
• Previous involvement in a church or ministry setting is preferred
• Agreement with the mission, values, and beliefs of United City Church

Some ministry tracks have additional qualifications (such as worship leadership experience, technical aptitude, creative portfolios, or bilingual proficiency).

Time Commitment

Part-Time (approximately 20-25 hours per week)

Nine-month Apprenticeship (August–May)

Ministry Partnership Model

The United City Residency is a support-raised ministry position in partnership with Reliant. Rather than being funded solely through the church budget, Residents build a team of ministry partners who financially support their ministry throughout the Residency year. Reliant provides professional coaching, training, and ongoing support throughout the process, equipping Residents with a lifelong ministry skill while ensuring they are prepared to begin their Residency with confidence.
