The Triangle West Transportation Planning Organization (TW TPO) is the regional transportation planning agency in North Carolina’s western Triangle. The TPO is responsible for planning and programming all modes of transportation including highways, public transit, freight, bicycles, and pedestrians. Our work is regionally based, but community focused. The TPO formulates and implements plans that improve life locally and ensure that these plans reflect our member communities’ collective vision. CPRC/TW TPO is now accepting applications for 2 opening part-time positions of modeling and traffic data support analyst.
About the Positions:
These two positions support transportation modelers in developing and updating the regional travel demand and traffic simulation models for the western Research Triangle, including Durham, Chapel Hill, and Carrboro.
Description of Work:
- Work with a skilled and experienced team to help with signal & traffic data process, traffic and simulation model update, as well as other analytical work.
- Provide travel demand modeling support for model evaluation, update and development as well as other travel and traffic data process and analysis.
- Analyzes highly technical data; write computer programs/scripts, work with Big Data and other types of data; develops and makes recommendations for technical projects.
Education & Experience:
- Applicants must be at least a senior undergraduate student majoring in civil engineering, urban and regional planning, geography, computer science, or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates who are enrolled in or have completed a graduate program in transportation or traffic engineering, urban and regional planning, Geography Information Systems (GIS), computer science, operations research, or another closely related discipline.
Additional Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge about Traffic operation and control devices. Traffic analysis and simulation skills and experience, especially experience with Synchro, TransModeler, or other traffic simulation modeling software,
- Traffic and travel data processing and analysis.
- Experience with GIS software,
- Database programming and statistics.
- Travel Demand Modeling and software, TransCAD or other modeling software.
Duration:
August 2026 – June 2027
Hours:
15-20 Hours Per Week
Starting Salary & Benefits:
Senior Student: $23.00 – $24.00
Graduate Student or Candidate with undergraduate degree $24.00 - $26.00
