Human Resources Generalist

Summary:

Assist the HR team and in supporting the Corporate business unit through the implementation of Human Resources strategies. Perform a variety of human resources related duties at the professional level and carries out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas: employment, recruiting, employee engagement. Link business and employee objectives to achieve increased business results.   

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with employees and management to communicate various Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and government regulations
  • Partner with CHRO to organize positive special employee relations events for corporate employees by coordinating committees and schedules and staying within established budget.
  • Assist Human Resources Team with various research and/or special projects.
  • Provide direction for staffing and selection through the application of company policies, procedures, vision and values, federal and employment laws
  • Serve as Trainer / Facilitator on different training programs for the corporate employees.
  • Advertises position vacancies within the company, and through use of, job boards, social media, college/trade schools, job fairs, and other means
  • Conducts an initial screening process and selects candidates who meet minimum qualifications.  Schedules / coordinates application completion and interviews as requested
  • Support delivery and administration of Human Resources professional services related to employee, recruitment, staffing, and performance management and employee communication 
  • Interacts with hiring manager regarding all openings and qualified candidates.  Provides guidance and recommendations to the hiring manager
  • Greets candidates and applicants, answers questions about employment opportunities, both in person and by phone
  • Coordinates all pre-employment screenings, including verification of previous employment, education, and criminal record checks
  • Extend offers and assists in the negotiation of employment offers as needed. Generates offer and rejection letters
  • Coordinates and/or sends reply notices to candidates, as needed, acknowledge their interest in employment opportunities with Vi-Jon
  • Coordinate and conduct New Hire Orientation for employees
  • Coordinate the onboarding and processing of all new hire forms for payroll and benefits
  • Create and maintain personnel and benefit files in electronic form
  • Creates and maintains records in compliance with company policy and external regulations
  • Coordinate temporary staffing for various special projects
  • Assist with the implementation and execution of the company’s new programs and policies 
  • Answers general inquiries/assists employees as needed with related HR questions
  • Manage HR administrative duties to include the mailroom, filing, processing purchase orders, and ordering office supplies.
  • Manage and create companywide communication to include company newsletter, new hire announcements, company policy updates, promotional announcements, community outreach, employee awards, PowerPoint presentations, and various projects as assigned.
  • Manage and update companywide digital monitors via truDigital Design.
  • Assist benefits team with communication needs.
  • All other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in human resources or business related field

Experience Requirements:

1-2 years progressive Human Resource Generalist experience, including a variety of HR administrative functions.  Experience in related recruitment activities a plus (i.e., resume review and candidate selection, interviewing, employment screening). 

Competencies:

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including knowledge of EEO, ADA and FMLA are a must
  • Requires knowledge of applicable Equal Employment Opportunity laws and regulations, personnel policies and procedures
  • Experience working with HRIS and timekeeping systems 
  • Kronos experience a plus
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

SHRM Certification preferred

Travel: minimal

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and scanners.
