Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated Mechanic Apprentice to join our team and learn the repair, maintenance, and rebuilding of AC and DC electric motors. This entry-level position offers hands-on training and mentorship. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude and eagerness to develop specialized skills in electric motor, gearbox, and break repair.
We will train you to:
- Assist experienced mechanics in disassembling, inspecting, and reassembling AC and DC electric motors
- Learn to identify and diagnose motor problems including bearing wear, winding damage, and component failures
- Help to maintain accurate records of work performed and parts used
- Assist with bearing replacement and shaft repair
- Learn proper safety procedures for working with electrical equipment
- Maintain clean and organized work areas and tool inventory
- Participate in ongoing training programs and skill development activities
- Perform routine maintenance tasks under supervision
- Assist with field service calls as needed
- Read job cards, inspection and parts needed reports, special instructions, and job tracker file
- Test motors to troubleshoot known or suspected problems using various methods
- Disassemble motors, noting parts identification, configuration, and condition
- Clean motor assemblies as needed using various methods and steps, including but not limited to: parts washers, power washer, and sand blasters, etc.
- Measure for and/or note proper replacement parts
- Replace or repair worn or defective assemblies, including but not limited to: bearings, brushes, brush holders, motor leads, gears, seals, gaskets, mechanical switches, etc.
- Reassemble tested motors
- Complete required paperwork for each job timely and accurately
- Observe all safety procedures and using proper protective gear, especially eye and ear protection
- Crane operation
- Perform other skilled or non-skilled duties as directed by supervisor
A Successful Candidate will have:
- Your own tools or participate in our tool buyback program
- The ability to be a part of our on-call rotation once training is complete
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- A strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- The ability to use basic hand tools and measuring instruments
- The willingness to learn and follow safety protocols
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
- Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
Would be great to have:
- Technical school training, mechanical or related field
- Previous experience in manufacturing, maintenance, or repair environment
- Familiarity with electrical testing equipment
- Basic computer skills for documentation and web searches
- Basic understanding of electrical concepts
- OSHA 10 or better
- Tow motor experience
- Welding certification or experience
Physical Requirements
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
- Find motor skills for detailed assembly and repair work
- Ability to talk, hear, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Ability to clearly see 20+ feet with or without corrective lenses. Must have color vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
This position is based in our facility in Cleveland, OH. A majority of the work will be performed in our shop. Occasionally, work is performed off site.
