Position Summary
The Financial Support Specialist works with all aspects of incoming contact with students regarding their student account/financial aid and must be familiar with a variety of the SEC’s policies, practices and procedures. This position works with both prospective and current UIU students to help educate and guide students through the student account and financial aid processes. The specialist will interpret and effectively explain procedures and policies, making appropriate decisions within them. The specialist serves as the front-line point of contact with external stakeholders and as such must have exemplary interpersonal skills.
Position Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to all student requests for information via phone, email or web/e-forms.
- Provide accurate answers to questions pertaining to the University, its policies andprocedures.
- Perform daily functions including, but not limited to, billing third parties, receiptingstudent payments, assisting students and parents with payment plans, processingstudent refunds, explaining the financial aid process, and collecting unpaid accounts.
- Collaborate between the Student Accounts and Financial Aid departments regardingindividual student accounts for a seamless experience for our students. Help withstudent orientation and exit activities.
- Provide quality customer service to effectively and professionally resolve studentconcerns/complaints.
- Responsible for providing daily processing of student financial documentation,verification, making corrections to student aid reports, and recording/updating checklistsand comment screens.
- Provide payment assistance for present and prospective students which includes:receipting and posting check, cash, and credit card payments promptly on a daily basis.
- Establish and monitor student payment plans; review progress towards payment ofthose plans and help identify if all students’ financial aid has been awarded, acceptedand reflected on their outstanding debt.
- Coordinate and invoice third parties for tuition and fees (employers, military, VeteransAffairs, Workforce, etc.)
- Add/Remove holds as necessary and oversee the accounts receivable aging reportand overdue accounting including tracking and communication.
- Collaborate with other areas to provide optimal enrollment services to students.
- Comply with appropriate federal/state regulations and policies.
- Professionally represent Upper Iowa University to internal and external constituents, including students, prospective students, companies, organizations, faculty, and UIU centers and locations.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree preferred, preferably in Accounting, Business, or related field.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Positive attitude for quality student/customer service.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Detail oriented.
- Must have strong organizational skills.
- Capable of handling multiple duties and tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of three years of experience in a business office setting; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities and abilities have been achieved.
- Experience in higher education preferred.
