CDL Driver & Equipment Operator 

Wage Range*CDL Driver $28.84 - $65.01/hr / Equipment Operator $54.30 - $76.01/hr

*Wages are based off Davis Bacon Act wage scales or higher 

Purpose

The CDL Driver & Equipment Operator is responsible for transporting heavy equipment and for operating machinery for underground utility and pipeline rehabilitation projects. This role involves driving commercial vehicles, hauling equipment to job sites, and operating specialized construction and trenchless technology equipment. 

Essential Duties

  • Safely operate commercial vehicles (Class A or B CDL) to transport equipment and materials to job sites
  • Load, secure, and unload heavy equipment such as vacuum trucks, excavators, backhoes, and trenchless technology tools
  • Operate construction and pipeline rehabilitation equipment, including hydro excavation units, CCTV inspection cameras, and UV CIPP curing systems
  • Perform daily vehicle and equipment inspections, ensuring compliance with DOT regulations
  • Follow job site safety procedures, including proper traffic control and confined space entry protocols
  • Assist with job site preparation, trenchless pipe installations, and material handling
  • Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, and work documentation
  • Perform minor maintenance and troubleshooting on trucks and equipment
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and environments, including confined spaces
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required

  • Valid Class A or B CDL (tanker and/or air brake endorsements pref)
  • Clean driving record
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in commercial truck driving and heavy equipment operation
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations, load securement, and equipment transportation safety
  • Experience operating excavators, skid steers, backhoes, vacuum trucks, or trenchless rehabilitation equipment
  • Hardworking and reliable
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks
  • Willingness to work in confined spaces and outdoor environments
  • Strong mechanical and technical troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Detail oriented 
  • Ability to travel 100% of the time on a weekly basis (typ m-f, home weekends) during the construction season
  • Ability to handle and resolve interpersonal conflict 
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced, stressful work environment
  • Ability to respond quickly, accurately, and professionally to demands and requests from customers and employees

Preferred

  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification
  • Confined space entry and rescue certification
  • Experience in sewer and storm drain maintenance, pipeline rehabilitation, or hydro excavation
  • Knowledge of UV CIPP, CCTV pipe inspection, or hydro jetting

Physical Requirements

Heavy Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
