The Valley Air District is recruiting for a Network Systems Analyst I to fill a current vacancy assigned to the Information Technology Services Department located in Fresno, California.  The eligible list established as a result of this recruitment may also be used to fill future vacancies.

 

After two years of service, incumbents may be eligible to advance to the Network Systems Analyst II classification. At the II level, incumbents are fully competent and independently perform the full range of Network Systems Analyst duties. The current salary range for Network Systems Analyst II is $7,469.87 to $9,079.83 per month.

 

THE POSITION

Network Systems Analyst I is the entry-level class in the professional information systems support series.  Incumbents perform routine office automation analysis and network systems work under close supervision, including determining system needs; installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining system hardware and software; conducting user training; and installing and maintaining local area networks. 

 

Network Systems Analyst II is the journey-level class in the series.  Under general supervision, incumbents are fully competent to perform the full range of office automation analysis work including complex and sophisticated systems analysis and implementation.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Level IRequires a Bachelor of Science degree in information systems, computer science, or a closely related discipline. Basic knowledge of network systems hardware, software, and design is desired. Experience in the analysis, design, programming, or implementation of automated systems may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of two (2) years.  

 

Level IIIn addition to the above, two (2) years of experience as a Network Systems Analyst I with the District. 

 

Qualified applicants must possess knowledge of

  • Principles, practices, and techniques of information systems analysis, including hardware and software options
  • Personal computer hardware and software, including local and wide area networking
  • Principles and practices for efficiently purchasing, operating, maintaining, and repairing systems 
  • Principles and practices for analyzing, implementing, and supporting Geographical Information Systems (GIS) such as ArcGIS or similar programs.

And skill in

  • Analyzing office automation problems, formulating and evaluating alternatives, and making sound recommendations
  • Troubleshooting, installing, and maintaining personal computer, local area network, and wide area network hardware and software
  • Training user staff in the operation of new or revised computer applications
  • Preparing written training and resource materials
  • Preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials
  • Making oral presentations
  • Exercising sound independent judgment within general policy guidelines
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS 

Where applicable, a valid California Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one upon hire. Must be able to attend work on a daily basis as scheduled.
