School Social Worker (VMA)

Vista Meadows Academy is currently hiring a part time School Social Worker to join our team!

Vista Meadows Academy is a 9-12 public school academy located on the beautiful campus of Vista Maria in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Job Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated School Social Worker to join our team. The School Social Worker will provide comprehensive social work services to students, families, and staff in a school setting. They will work collaboratively with school personnel to identify and address social, emotional, and behavioral issues that impact student success. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in social work, a deep understanding of child development, and a passion for supporting the social, emotional, and academic success of students. 

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

Provide direct services to students, such as counseling, crisis intervention, and group work

Conduct assessments and develop intervention plans for students with social, emotional, and behavioral needs

Collaborate with school personnel to develop and implement programs that promote a positive school climate and student success

Consult with teachers, parents, and community agencies to address student needs and concerns

Provide support and education to families on a variety of issues, including parenting skills, communication, and community resources

Monitor and maintain accurate and timely records of services provided and student progress

Participate in school-based teams and committees to address student needs and promote school-wide initiatives

Stay current on best practices and trends in school social work and related fields

Maintaining a safe and positive environment for all students

Maintaining effective communication with students, parents, and school staff

Regular and predictable attendance

Cognitive Demands:

Establishing routines and procedures

Maintaining a safe and orderly environment

Create and implement assessment and intervention plans

Participate in continuous professional development

Effective oral and written communication skills

Cultural awareness and empathy towards students and families

Critical thinking

Physical Demands:

Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs

Stand and walk frequently

Occasionally sit on the floor or bend down/squat

Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year

Withstand a moderate noise level

Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary

Assist/lift students, as necessary

Requirements:

Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited program

Valid state licensure as a school social worker

Temporary or full approval as a social worker

Experience working with children and families in a school setting

Knowledge of social, emotional, and behavioral issues that impact student success

Ability to work collaboratively with school personnel, families, and community agencies

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards

Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
